Nuestras Raices Centro Comunitario (NRCC) opened its doors in its new office in Othello, Washington—a city in Adams County, where 75.6% of the population is Hispanic or Latino.
Othello has become a destination for immigrants from Latin America who arrive as migrant workers or for seasonal farm work. NRCC will focus on helping the community with its diverse services and programs, which include Esperanza (health and human services), Exito (economic development), education advocacy, workers' rights, and cultural events.
NRCC is committed to increasing public awareness and pride in the depth and diversity of Hispanic / Latino culture. It promotes and serves Hispanic/Latino interests through cultural, business outreach, social justice, and community well-being.
This new office in Othello will allow agricultural workers to access the services they need in their language and close to home.
The office opened on October 12, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place. Other activities included celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and Dia de Los Muertos. People also had access to a mobile clinic to check their blood pressure. They also enjoyed local food and craft vendors, Ballet Folklorico de Spokane, kids' activities, free supplies, and informational booths about their programs.
The event was a true community celebration, with about 200 people in attendance. Local businesses and nonprofits joined the festivities, including REMAX and Othello Food Bank. Othello Mayor Shawn Logan and other community members also showed their support for this important event.
Othello NRCC office will be open from Monday to Thursday, from 10 am to 6 pm and people will be able to walk in or call to make an appointment.
The office, located at 381 E Main St. in Othello (near Remax and across from Pioneer Park), already has four staff working in that area for its different programs.
